Happy King’s Day!

On This Dutch National Holiday We All Wear Orange!

Happy King’s day! Today we Dutchies celebrate our King’s birthday. For the second year the celebrations  will be a little different, meaning a lot less. Normally we would be celebrating together all day, preferably outside, and everyone would be wearing orange and eating orange snacks. And  the celebrating would already start the night before during King’s night. Hopefully next year we will be back to ‘normal’.

My Nederland illustration above, is filled with typical Dutch things.  We may be a small country but there’s still a lot to love here and it’s usually very ‘gezellig’.

For my non-Dutch followers, some of the typical Dutch foods on here are (from top to bottom): hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles to eat on your bread, usually for breakfast), stroopwafel (waffle filled with caramel syrup), patatje met (French fries with mayonnaise), tompoes (a very sweet pastry) and drop (salty liquorice).

Card and prints available in my Etsy shop.

Couples “Portrait”

This is a custom couples “portrait” commission that I made for Annabel and Coen, to celebrate their wedding anniversary. I was very happy to do it, because, as you can see, they have a very cute & cozy style!⠀

Freezing January

2017-freezing-january-cindy-mangomini

These last weeks have been so cold that I was slowly turning into a sheep! My vintage shearling jacket, boots and mittens were the only clothes warm enough to keep me from freezing. Not a lot of room for fashion when temperatures drop below zero (at least not for me). Luckily I was so busy with illustration jobs that I could spend a lot of time inside with my thermos filled with tea right beside me.

Wearing: shearling jacket, wool cardigan and mittens, Vintage – jeans and tights, H&M – hat, Newyorker – boots, so old I don’t remember – thermos, Mizu.

Dutch Summer

2016 Dutch Summer - Cindy Mangomini

The Dutch summer so far: rain, rain and more rain. Excellent summer weather to stay inside, read, drink tea and have an occasional sunny cocktail.

Dreaming of Summer

2016 Dreaming of summer - Cindy Mangomini

I’m longing for summer and this is what I want to be wearing to a lovely picnic in the park. But, no such luck with the Dutch spring. It’s more wool sweaters, extra socks and staying inside to escape the rain, wind and even snow! Luckily, I can always draw a sunny scene!

March, so far: cold & wet.

2016 march - Cindy Mangomini

March has been very cold and very wet so far, but I’m trying to enjoy it anyway. Tea and chocolate (home made brownies, yummie!) always help, and a little alcohol also doesn’t hurt 😉

Wearing: cardigan, vintage – top, Newyorker -nailpolish, Catrise – denim dress, H&M – shoes, Carmens Padova, eyeliner, Hema.
